30 days sober and my first day of volunteering

“Here comes Meals on Wheels,” a bored voice flatly calls out.
I am ineffectively trying to keep two bags of food from falling off my makeshift dolly when I hear the woman announce my arrival. I’m in the lobby of a large low income housing facility and a bit turned around.
“Hi,” I reply to the woman, [...]

I’m tired.

I am getting a new roof today.
I’m headed to my training for Meals on Wheels this afternoon!
I’m on Day 10 of my giving.
I’m still going to AA meetings.
I found this great new debt management video:

Countup: 16 days of no drinking!
(I don’t feel sane enough to call it sobriety yet.)
Countdown: 141 days until I move into [...]

The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Giving

One of the things I have been struggling with as I try to think about someone that I can give to each day is my tendency to judge the potential recipient’s worthiness or unworthiness of my charity. (Nice of me, huh?)

Getting out of my crazy brain

Donating in the Rain

With the Lifeworks donation pickup scheduled for 11am today, I figured I could wake up early to get everything in the driveway ready to go. I woke up to torrential rain. Lounging around in my nightgown, drinking coffee, and watching the rain pour down, I really didn’t want to don the big blue rain parka [...]

Lifeworks 1.0

Lifeworks had a big fundraiser last week, so they asked if they could delay the pick up of my furniture until October 9th. Despite my readiness to get rid of the things in my garage, I was happy to have some extra time to sort through the closets in my house.  But I only have [...]

I got rid of some stuff!

I made a list of items that I could easily part with and emailed a local charity that we support, Lifeworks. They are going to bring a truck to load up a bunch of my stuff!
Yeah! Someone is going to have a very nice crate and barrel home. Not me.
