Thank you for all the well wishes and words of advice! I did go ahead and order a satellite phone, which should arrive this afternoon. I also have the Verizon wifi with the booster, so hopefully that will keep me in touch with you guys along the way.
Much of my itinerary is tentative, as I have finally relented to flexibility and abandoned my Excel spreadsheets. I need to drive when I can and rest when I can, so decided I have to go with the flow on that. (A challenge!)
My very loose itinerary does include:
Departing from the warm Texas Gulf Coast on Friday (or now possibly Saturday; I tried to open my awning, couldn’t figure it out, and now can’t get it reattached! I have an emergency awning service call and tutoring session scheduled : )
Dallas/Fort Worth for a few days to visit with friends and family.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Yellowstone National Park (I’ve taken your earlier advice and plan to spend as many as 10 nights there.)
A visit with my husband somewhere at the 3 week point of my journey.
If I am not running too far behind, then I will use my reservation at Glacier National Park, but may go ahead and cross the border to do the pretty drive from Calgary up through Banff and onto Jasper National Park.
The Alaskan Canadian highway will start the most flexible part of my journey.
From Dawson City I will head up the Dempster Highway to Inuvik. From there I will take the short flight to Tuktoyaktuk to dip my feet into the cold Arctic Ocean!
You have no idea how much it means to me that you are following along. It gives me a wonderful sense of connection and community.
I had a dream last night that I was working on my motorhome in a garage filled with different vehicles. I was using a slide out switch and was frustrated that the slides of every vehicle would move, instead of just mine. Finally someone told me, “You have to use the control that is local to just your RV, not the general one for the whole garage”
I liked this dream… an interesting pre-trip suggestion about autonomy and agency.
