Bizarre Hoodoos and oh-my-god-I’m-camping

As previously noted, I wasn’t feeling very confident with regard to camping.  I couldn’t believe that I ever thought this was a good idea.
I arrive at the campground and no one is there. I have no idea what to do. I drive in circles until, finally, I find a camper with a sign that says, [...]

Tonight, I sleep outside.

I am on my way to Bryce Canyon to check in to my campground.  Lows will be in the 40s. I am not sure I will have Internet or phone service for a few days.
I cannot believe I thought this was a good idea.  I do have an emergency bottle of wine. Thank god.

Warning: Road May Not Be Passable

I was scared, again, this morning. Everytime I re-checked my route on Google Maps, it always defaulted to a long detour onto an interstate up north – having me go straight north, straight west, and then straight south down to Escalante, Utah.  The little ’scenic’ route that was much shorter didn’t even show up, and [...]

One day, four states

I woke up really early, so was on the road before six. I know the Texas panhandle is not celebrated for it’s beauty, but [...]

Day 1: 613 miles, still in Texas

I was so nervous this morning! I was up late and then up earlier this morning than planned. The extra hour got me on the road by 6:30 am.
11 hours of driving and I still haven’t made it out of Texas. I am in Dalhart – a  little farming town that smells like cow manure [...]

We do need the rain

We’ve been stuck in quite a drought here in Texas, but this evening (before my departure) we got a nice soaking thunderstorm.  Unfortunately, my packing strategy had everything in the yard on its way the car -including my paper instructions on how to assemble my tent! Ugh! My confidence in my ability to be a [...]

Google Map vs. Road Atlas

Because I can’t access Google Maps while I am driving, I tend to rely on my old fashioned Road Atlas for planning my trips.  I noticed that parts of my Utah route had blurred roads, but didn’t pay attention or worry about them until I decided to look them up more closely on Google.
Here is [...]

I am such a bad ass I can hardly stand myself
